How Tourism Works
Each year more than 8.8 million international visitors and 96 million domestic visitors travel to and around Australia. Visitors come to Australia for a holiday, to attend events, for business, to study or to visit friends and relatives. In the course of their travels in and around Australia, visitors spend more than $54 billion.
As visitors travel around Australia, the money they spend creates more than 934,000 jobs across businesses in transport, accommodation, restaurants, cafes, retail, food & beverage, attractions, tours, education and more.
Government funding for tourism marketing and events creates new jobs by attracting more visitors and tourism dollars to Australia.
